COOL ROOF SYSTEMS & CALIFORNIA TITLE 24?

California Title 24 was established to combat the depletion of energy, land and water rescources threatening California's environmental quality. Title 24 has set basic roof requirements for reflectance and emittance that meet an energy budget for a building, based upon its climate zone location. The energy budget allows the design professional and owner to choose components that may meet Title 24 in one construction component, while compensating with more energy efficient components in other areas to meet the energy budget for a building.

The "Cool Roof" requirements of Title 24, Section 118 requires roofing materials of a high solar reflectance and high thermal emittance that reduce heat gain through the roof. Commercial roofing products that qualify include roofing coatings, specifically elastomeric coatings  that meet the Title 24 Minimum Requirements of  0.70 Solar Reflectance and 0.75 Thermal Emittance.

The "Bright White" Cool Roof Elastomeric Coatings, CERAMICOAT ROOFING and FINAL COAT have been tested to ASTM Standards by an accredited Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) lab with both specialty coatings having a Solar Reflectance of 0.86 and Thermal Emittance rating of 0.89. These two products carry the CRRC Product ID of 1028-0001 and 1028-0002 respectively.

Energy saving roof coatings like CERAMICOAT ROOFING or FINAL COAT can be far more economical than installing other energy efficient products to achieve the "Overall Envelope Approach". For additional information about Energy Efficiency Standards, visit your State Energy Commission website about existing rebates, or Utility Company website in your area.
